Hello fellow members of the HHR Musical CO-OP Foundation™, some updates for you here from HQ:
First off, THANK YOU to all of you who contributed/are contributing to the CO-OP's health by participating in our fundraising efforts. Whether you purchased a sticker, donated a dollar, or bought the entire Hydra Head Test Press Collection ©, every little bit has helped us regain some of our former strength and provided some stable ground on which we continue to tread. Because of your generous support in just a few short months we've managed to pay off some long standing debts, keep our remaining staff clothed and fed, and get five reissue projects into production*. While we're not out of the woods yet, we're doing a far sight better than we were before this whole Hydra Health™ Plan was initiated. Though our path out of the dark is still dim and strewn with obstacles, there is certainly hope for the future that we'll be able to continue repressing our back catalog, thanks to everyone who's helped shed some light along the way - and to all of those people, we are very grateful indeed.
 |
Next up on the agenda is the new album in the works from Hydra Head alumni Helms Alee. Saddened as we are by our inability to participate in the release of this album, we're happy to announce the band themselves are shouldering the duty of releasing it. In an effort to raise the necessary funds to make the record happen they've launched a Kickstarter pre-sale campaign with some pretty sweet packages on offer for potential backers. To watch their superbly crafted promo video and score a copy of what is sure to be one of the best albums of the year go here to pledge your support:
|
Speaking of support, we managed to pull together one more complete Hydra Head Records Collection™pulled directly from the A. Turner Archives © to help with our own continued fundraising efforts. The set includes over 240 different releases - LPs, 7"s, 2xLPs, DVDs, pictures discs, cassettes, compact discs, 6"s, etc. Aside from the wide array of fantastic items listed above, there are also some special surprises provided with the set, including but not limited to 5 (or more) test pressing editions from our unparalleled catalog of recorded sound works. Proceeds from the sale of this set will go directly towards the pressing of future Hydra Head Records catalog titles. Though we realize this is a steep sticker price, the eBay value alone is well above our own comparatively modest asking amount, not to mention the fact that you'd be obtaining over 7200 minutes of the worlds best music!
Go here for more on this fantastic offer: Hydra Head Records Collection™
And that about concludes our news for the moment. We'll be back next week with details on some exciting pre-order launches for the Discordance Axis - Jouhou 2xLP and Converge - Caring & Killing 2xLP as well as a bit more on our exciting Record Store Day releases: Cave In - Until Your Heart Stops 2xLP andBotch - American Nervoso 2xLP.
'Til then, thanks for tuning in and "see" you next time...
Torche has a new music video directed by our very own Andrew James Cox (aka Sugarbear, also responsible for the Helms Alee - "8/16," and Torche - "UFO" videos). It premiered yesterday on Stereogum.
It's for the song "Kicking" from their new album Harmonicraft (out now on Volcom Entertainment), and involves a kickball game, hallucinations, and orange soda. See if you can spot cameos by other members of the Hydra Head crew, Isis, Ides of Gemini, Pangea, and Dream Homes.
Also, Mark shows a lot of skin.
"Director Andrew James Cox manages to hit all the inspirational sports-movie beats while making fun of them at the same time, and that hallucination sequence is a thing to behold." - Stereogum

Helms Alee's debut video for the track "8/16", off of 2011's year-end ranking album Weatherhead, premieres today exclusively on VEVO!
Shot on location in the band's Northwest homelands of Seattle and Tacoma, "8/16" represents months of preparation, production and now successful completion thanks to die-hard Helms Alee fans who supported the entire process via the project's Kickstarter campaign. Masterminded and executed by animator/director Andrew James Cox (whose previous credits include Torche's "UFO" clip), the video is in homage to the cult 90s MTV series Beavis and Butthead, and the videos that they parodied at the time. The live-action spoofs feature the three members of Helms Alee (otherwise animated like Beavis and Butthead) recreating classic music videos of that era.

"8/16" comes from Helms Alee's second full length album Weatherhead. Produced by Matt Bayles in the winter of 2011, and released the following July, Weatherhead finds the band expanding on what AVClub calls 'impossibly catchy heaviness'. Tours with Torche, Big Business, Boris and Minus the Bear have helped the band, and now Weatherhead, put grunge right back on the map.
The girls and boy of Helms Alee will be on tour this March with fellow Northwest resident, Thrones:
03/03 Bellingham, WA @ Jinx Art Space w/ Sloths, Tearamanapart
03/31 Seattle, WA @ Comet Tavern w/ Thrones
04/01 Vancouver, BC @ Iron Roads Studio w/ Thrones
04/03 Bellingham, WA @ Shakedown w/ Thrones
04/05 Arcata, CA @ Alibi w/ Thrones
04/06 San Francisco, CA @ Hemlock Tavern w/ Thrones

This Friday, November 25th, is the slated release date for several Hydra Head titles:
 |
| BLACK FACE - I Want to Kill You b/w Monster 7" |
 |
| HELMS ALEE - Weatherhead Cassette (previously only available from the band on tour) |
 |
| OLD MAN GLOOM - Christmas Eve I & II + 6 + Live in NYC LP |
 |
| PYRAMIDS / HORSEBACK - A Throne Without a King LP+7" |
Unfortunately due to some delays, some stores will not have received OLD MAN GLOOM or PYRAMIDS / HORSEBACK in time for Record Store Day Black Friday, but check back in the next week or two.
If you are in the Los Angeles area, come by VACATION VINYL on Friday. In addition to all four Hydra Head titles (probably the only store to have PYRAMIDS / HORSEBACK available on Friday) and piles of other RSD releases, we will be giving away free Hydra Head promo CDs, posters, and stickers. Also, we may or may not have a stack of HHR Test Presses for sale.
Also, the first 10 people to buy the BLACK FACE 7" will receive an uncut jacket print.

Stores, let us know in the comments if you should be on this list.
You've got about 7 hours left to pledge if you want to get any of the rewards from the Helms Alee music video kickstarter campaign.
Good news is they hit their minimum, so the video is definitely a go. Sugarbear is plotting furiously now.

If you were expecting the same old tidy power rock from Seattle’s Helms Alee, they have a whole lot of mindfuckery in store on their second album Weatherhead. A bold and experimental epic, the trio cracks time signatures in half, wades through indie harmonies and steers in bulldozers full of triumphant, psychedelic riffs...read more at Decibel
June 21st sees the official release of Helms Alee's sophomore album, Weatherhead, but you can order it now and grab a kick ass exclusive shirt while you are at it. As the proper follow-up to Night Terror, this album is amazing in its craftsmanship. You can catch the lead off jammer, "Elbow Grease", here.
As part of the preorder, we have made available a full color version of the already classic "beavis & butthead" shirt design, brought to you by our very own Sugarbear (A.C.) . The print is on a heather grey shirt and wont be available after the preorder passes. Get that ish here.
