Helms Alee on tour! Helms Alee on tour! A tour like this is like winning the lottery! Not only do we get to see them (tomorrow!)...but so do a whole boatload of folks in cities across the US. Their totally undefinable debut 2008 album "Night Terror" was one of those fiercely loved but under noticed albums...the type of record that makes us want to be a better label, and the type of album that makes other amazing bands want to take them on the road. It's nice to see both coming to fruition...the Helms Alee trio will be sharing the stage with Boris, Red Sparowes, Young Widows, Akimbo, Narrows and others between now and mid September. And if we're all good and eat our vegetables we'll get a new album (produced by Matt Bayles again!) from these guys by the end of the year....which means we get to spread our wings and shine with a whole slab of fresh indefinability in 2011!

Torche Premiere New Song "U.F.O." on iTunes and Stereogum

So Torche has this new record coming out in a few weeks and it's called Songs For Singles. You knew that. Today, though, you can have your first nibble at the aural feast that I have been wrecking my car speakers with since we got the first demos here at ol' HHR. CAVE IN live review featuring new songs!

Everyone knows Cave In recently played a show with Boris and Russian Circles, in beantown no less. If you missed it, you should check out this sharp review that was just posted on Stereo Typing. The review is rife with video clips of the event, including two semi-brand new songs, Centered and Vicious Circles. I say "semi" because we all know that Vicious Circles was played at the reunion show that appears on the Planets of Old CDep+DVD, and Centered has already made its way online. Stephen Brodsky UK solo tour this December

Brodsky has been busting out high end solo material for years...the man just can't be stopped. His last album was on CS and Digital back in March though Hydra Head, and we're pretty sure his self released CD version may appear in tandem with these solo UK tour dates...but don't quote us on that just yet. If you live in the UK and haven't seen Stephen perform, do yourself a kindness and give it a go. He'll be out with Neurosis' Scott Kelly from December 7th through 15th. Nice!

Torche "Songs for Singles" VACATION preorder is up too!

Torche's Songs For Singles is now currently available in preorder status at Los Angeles' VACATION VINYL. Flyer is below, but the most important points are the fact that VACATION will have their own (almost) exclusive vinyl color, and this is only available for in-store customers (sorry internet trollers). We are hoping that the exclusive color comes out to be Teal, but more than likely it will be a marble mess of blue, green and white; still cool though. Also, it should be noted that VACATION has moved! New location is in Sunset Junction at 3815 W Sunset Blvd. Brings some extra nickels for next store neighbor, Secret Headquarters.

Pelican 10-Year Anniversary Shows, Box Set, Beer

Pelican have announced plans to play two very special shows in celebration of their 10-year anniversary box set, out October 19th on Berlin, Germany’s Viva Hate Records. The elegantly packaged wooden-box set will be limited to a run of 500 copies and will encompass material from their four full-length releases and three EPs.


Pelican play Chicago’s Bottom Lounge on October 23rd joined by longtime friends and occasional collaborators The Life & Times.
Munster, IN’s Three Floyds Brewery will celebrate the event by unveiling a special, Pelican-dedicated doppelbock (one of the few styles of beer all four band members regularly agree upon). The as-yet-unnamed ale will be served at the Chicago show and at select watering holes and specialty shops around the Chicagoland area for a limited time.

One week after the Chicago appearance, Pelican will join forces with legendary doom-metal overlords Goatsnake (making a rarer than rare live appearance) on October 30th to play the Troubador in Los Angeles.

Lustmord Preparing for Second and Third Ever Live Shows

Lustmord will make his second live appearance in 29 years at Unsound Festival 2010 in Krakow, Poland. The show will take place on October 22 in Kino Kijow, a cinema and landmark piece of 60s communist-era architecture in Krakow. Another show is scheduled for Berlin, Germany on October 27 2010, at Berghain, presented by Club Transmediale in conjunction with Unsound.

Lustmord has been preparing for these shows, creating video backdrops and prepping music. Have a peek at his setup over at his blog.

CAVE IN: Anomalies Vol. 2 'Live In Milan' CD Available Tomorrow!

Anomalies Vol. 2, you say? But how?! But why?! The Cave In gents were so antsy to get a move on with the Anomalies series that they've jumped immediately to #2 with this slammin' (we have only heard the track below, and its awesome...so we'd have to assume the whole set is awesome.) self released live set from 2003. This release was recorded from soundboard at a stop-over in Milan, Italy in 2003 while out supporting their RCA album 'Antenna'. We're not sure who they were playing with that night (so if you know, please tell us!), but we're guessing it was a killer show if for no other reason than that the band at this point was in tip top fighting shape. From the look of the track listing there's a nice mix of selections spanning much of Cave In's varied and dynamic history...in fact it looks like every release from Until Your Heart Stops through Perfect Pitch Black is represented here (including a personal favorite, Droned, which wasn't officially released for another few years after this live set).

The band put this release together themselves, and are making it available for the first time tomorrow night for their sole remaining summer show (w/Boris, Russian Circles at Mid East Club in Cambridge, MA). We're not sure of the price or of where to buy it after tomorrow night, but we'll do our best to get some into the webstore real quick like.

If you won't be at the show tomorrow, perhaps this throwback cut from the release will tide you over for a bit!
