Lustmord: Transmuted 12" covered in LA Weekly!

Pitch black dub from the devil's jukebox, Lustmord's Transmuted offers two riddim version redo's of dooming tunes from the legendary "dark ambient" pioneer's latest album, Other. It's a thing that has to be heard to be believed, because, well, it actually works. On the A-Side, Jesu/Godflesh main brain Justin K. Broadrick puts drum and bass to "Dub Awakening," spooky graveside acoustics eventually giving way to a bounce that's undeniably of the Jamaican isle -- albeit the part where they still practice Obeah. On the flip, "Er Dub Us," remixed by Lustmord, employs an electronic stutter beat and deep synthesized low end swells to create something that would sound perfectly at home coming off of D-Styles' turntable at The Airliner on a Wednesday night. Terrifying, yes, but awesome as well.

Christmas Hams

A vintage video featuring Sarah with her old hair color (at least I heard she dyed her hair and is putting together goth shows and stuff now) when she still ate lunch with us, Mark, Andrew AKA Sugarbear with short hair, and Jeff with probably less weight as they dissect the appearance of some poor pedestrian.

Hayaino Daisuki: Announce New Album, "The Invincible Gate Mind of The Infernal Fire Hell, or Did You Mean Hawaii Daisuki?," Out February 23rd on HH

Hayaino Daisuki is a full-on thrash-grind-stravaganza. – BrooklynVegan

You'll have no idea what Jon Chang is saying, but you'll remember every word. -
Pitchfork

Grindcore has always been an art form attempted by few and mastered by even fewer. DISCORDANCE AXIS should be considered to be one of these few masters. -
Apeshit.org

I was like you once... Often a little too lazy to get out of bed to blow a piss, old milky cereal bowls... so yeah, I know exactly what you're thinking... you're thinking, how could
Hayaino Daisuki, arguably the most influential power-thrash outfit (in japan), outdo what they already pulled off on their debut EP, Headbanger's Karaoke Club Dangerous Fire? But they did... let me break it down.

OK so,
Hayaino Daisuki has always been the tightest and the fastest band out there, right? Hayaino's new record, other wise known as The Invincible Gate Mind of the Infernal Fire Hell, or Did You Mean Hawaii Daisuki? maintains the aforementioned titles while gaining them another... After this record hits the shelves, people like you and me are going to have to start referring to Hayaino Daisuki as the fastest, tightest and most melodic metal band ever! And dude, if you're into aggressive music you've come to the right place... listening to this band, and in particular the record in question, is like crossing streams with a fire hose... You know... Obviously you run the risk of injury, but you're stoned and growing up in the suburbs...

TRACKLISTING
1. Ghosts of Purgatory (2:43)
2. Shibito (3:40)
3. Kirei (3:35)
4. Blood (2:21)

Xasthur: 2005 Demo CD / 12" out February 23rd on Hydra Head!

One of America's most prolific and unapproachable underground metal musicians. - Billboard

It's so unnerving at times that it's easy to forget that this is just one Californian, one human like any other... except he hates everything he sees with a Nietzschean passion. - Decibel

If your into de/opp-ressive black metal, and like... who isn't? then your already a massive Xasthur fan... And so, you're already overwhelmingly aware of the fact that no outfit or individual in the Black Metal community, absolutely no one, is capable of reflecting and drawing the listener in to such a near tangible presence of distress...

The Xasthur record in question, 2005 Demo, is two lost, completed demo tracks that were recorded prior to the time that Subliminal Genocide was... and in a sense these two previously unavailable recordings come across like a much belated extension of Subliminal Genocide. And that record rules, so that's good news, right? Hydra Head has since mastered 2005 Demo so the listen will be enjoyable for Black Metal heads across the board, not just completest kids with b-side collections from here to Asgard.

2005 Demo Tracklist
1. Untitled 4/05 (7:02)
2. Untitled 5/05 (9:12)

Jesu: "Losing Streak" is NPR's Song Pick of the Day

From his place at the beginning of grindcore with Napalm Death to his role in Godflesh's expansion of industrial metal, the U.K. musician specializes in artistic hairpin turns. After almost three decades, Broadrick has come to a crossroads between ambient music and metal with his current project, Jesu. The band travels a path beaten by drone-metal titans such as Sunn O))) and Earth, but still makes a mark and widens the road in its own right.

Harvey Milk: Debut 's/t' Album, Out January 26th on Hydra Head!

Previously known, to you likely too-savvy-for-your-own-good individuals, as the famous “Bob Weston Sessions,” Harvey Milk's s/t album is the official master of the band's should-have-been debut record. The thing never received a proper release, so we over at Hydra Head decided to set the record straight...

Sure, you could google search this piece now that you know it exists, but remember we got the re-re-remastered version and it sounds a hell of a lot better... Plus if you purchase a copy from your local record store, you'll sleep a lot better tonight knowing that, among other things, your not a filthy liar and a dirty thief.

I can understand your hesitance however... It can get hairy digging up debut records from one your favorite bands... Especially if they've been around a while... I mean a lot of things can happen over the years... It would suck at this point to have to start explaining that Harvey Milk is your favorite band, but with the caveat that they're really only your favorite band from '94 on... Say things like that too much and your buddies slowly stop being your buddies and you end up with a whole new set of buddies, but these new buddies you never actually get to see in person and you know those pictures aren't really of their girlfriends. Good news: You can rest assured! Nothing is lost here, only gained. Harvey Milk is as heavy as ever and Creston Spiers, as most of you likely too-savvy-for-your-own-good individuals already know, was born with that particular seabitten brand of a man's voice that we're all so jealous of.

Harvey Milk s/t Tracklist
1. Blueberry Dookie
2. Plastic Eggs
3. Merlin Is Magic
4. Dating Pressures
5. My Father?s Life?s Work
6. Probölkoc
7. Smile
8. Jim?s Polish
9. F.S.T.P.
10. Anthem

Oxbow: LA Weekly Covers "Songs For the French" Limited 12"

When you've released albums with names like "The Balls In The Great Meat Grinder," recorded for Greg Ginn's legendary SST Records, worked with Steve Albini, and been crafting avant-garde blues since the late '80s, well, your throne should already be lined with the finest black velvet and the skulls of lesser artists. But despite Oxbow's legendary track record, the San Francisco band still has yet to get its due. Hydra Head Records has been doing its part to prove this fact, reissuing the group's game-changing 1989 debut
Fuckfest earlier this year, and pressing up this noisy little gem -- a tour disc whose A-side includes three in-studio improvisations (lyrics and all) and whose B-side collects a handful of live highlights from last year's European tour. In both contexts, Eugene Robinson's groaned, sung and screamed vocals sound as desperate and commanding as ever, while the music ranges from minimal plucking and percussion to jazzy feedback-fueled skronk.

The humble bow before the dualistic incarnation of divinity known as Pyramids with Nadja

"...as pure a collaborative effort as is humanly possible."
"Simply put: there is no other music like this out there"
-Allmusic.com 4/5.

"'Pyramids With Nadja' is nothing short of a revelation"
-Rock Sound 9/10

"Whoa! High toasts to collaborations that don't suck! Hint: this one don't."
-Decibel Magazine 8/10

"Pyramids With Nadja is a most natural pairing....Such contrast is refreshing....Introduction of clearly defined dynamics is almost revolutionary."
-Pitchfork 7.2

"Pyramids with Nadja is an acknowledgment of the inevitable infinite, a spiritually-attuned piece of drone that serves to remind us of our own insignificance, celebrating the greater whole of which we are a part. This is not a record of bombast or inwardly-focused attentions. It is not a story or a formulated exercise. Its movement is organic, its dynamic natural. The album is a metaphor and a parable. It is a scale model of forever."
-Tinymixtapes.com 3.5/5
