HYDRA HEAD RECORDS

Splitting Heads since 1995
There has been piles of great press and reviews coming in for Khylst's debut (The Sranger, Underground Review, Hard Rock Haven, Outside Left, Smother), but they all seem to say the same thing...that James Plotkin is playing bass. Its not a huge deal by any stretch, but we feel we should clear things up just a bit...James plays guitar (and drums, and gong, believe it or not) on the new record "Chaos is My Name". For those of you that are going to be in NYC on Thursday, come and see for yourselves that he is, in fact, playing guitar. Khlyst's debut performance, and likely their only one for a while, is Thursday November 2nd at Sin-e in NYC as part of the Vice/HHR show with the totally odd pairing of Stephen Brodsky's Octave Museum, 120 Days, Panthers, Favourite Sons and Chromeo.
Hymie gets tickled. Like, alot. He loves every second of the attention but pretends he hates it. On today's installment make special note of Hymies trademarked high pitch scream followed by several floorpunch type swings he likely learned in the pits of DC. Here's the first of many future installments of...The Daily Tickle!!!

The big guy over here has an album coming out tomorrow, so why not celebrate by buying a once coveted part of his bandmate's fashion ensemble?! Bryant Clifford Meyer's shoes are going for mere pennies now, but keeping in mind what celebrity does to old articles of clothing, you should invest now before you never again have a chance to get your hands on such a precious pair of kicks Make the expenditure now, because these will likely go for thousands at auction in a few years. All proceeds go to a plate of vegan cuisine at Green Leaves. oh, and go to the Cha Cha tonite cause its gonna be a mufuckin' party...

a few more videos to check out, both of which feature some older Pelican songs as the soundtrack...

Pelican contributed "Sirius" to Xvivo's demo reel. They specialize in providing amazing animation for medical schools across the country. "As a band, this was a cool choice because we feel that medical animation is likely to reduce the use of animals in labs for testing, so it was neat to contribute a song to a company that likely helps that goal." to view the video click on the link that says animation towards the bottom of their site and the video will play. this one features the track 'GW' from Australasia as its soundtrack. the images in the video are a collage of footage from 1960 about Joseph Kittinger, a man who in that year took a giant helium balloon up to 102,800 feet and then jumped, setting records for highest ascent, highest jump, longest freefall and fastest fall. The video was put together by Temmi Okkerse, who is a part of the Smallcities art collective in Holland. CLICK to view

All your favorite jams (fourteen in all); all those unstoppable riffs, all that blood, sweat and fear. See it for the first time all over again, under the white-hot blaze of the worklights, complete with pant-pissing bonus commentary and an audio CD of the complete performance. Plus a video for "St. Matthew Returns to the Womb." Plus a bunch of other cool shit that you'll have to discover for yourself.

Invoking an aesthetic amalgam of black echoes, night sweats, and necromancy, Khanate bassist James Plotkin (Phantomsmasher, ex-O.L.D.) and vocalist Runhild Gammelsæter (ex-Sunn O))),Thorr’s Hammer) set forth on a bleak journey beset with incubi, death convulsions, and abject hopelessness. Alternately harsh and beguiling, Chaos Is My Name is like waking up in the basement hospital of Jacob’s Ladder only to realize that the permanently disfiguring abuse you’re about to endure has already taken place. The rest of your brief, excruciating life will be spent as a hideously deformed flesh puppet, flailing helplessly under the high-pitched whine of various torture devices and experimental dental equipment, while seraphim sing in the distance, never once offering you their hand.

Track Listing:
1. I (2:44)
2. II (7:50)
3. III (1:45)
4. IV (2:00)
5. V (3:53)
6. VI (7:13)
7. VII (6:16)
8. VIII (4:53)

Hi everyone,
the venue for the 10/12 Ottawa show has changed from Babylon to Mavericks. As well the doors / show times have changed from 5pm doors / 5:30 pm show to the far more humane 7pm doors / 7:30 pm show with Pelican hitting the stage approx 10:15 pm. Please let everyone know!!!

It came as absolutely no surprise that Oxbow has been nominated for a prestigious SF Weekly Music Award....they clearly have some good taste. The way we see it is that a win for Oxbow is a win for us all. They'll be in good spirits post win and we'll be able to turn up the evil heat to get them to finish the album they are calling "The Narcotic Story"...you can vote for Oxbow here.

Daughters frontman, Alexis Stephen Francis Marshall, was run out of LA's Knitting Factory last week after showing off his “stuff” at their appearance with Pelican. Once being informed the police had arrived at the venue to take him into custody for indecent exposure, Alexis, aka Lex, reportedly cut the Daughters set short, jumped off stage, and hid at the nearest local bar until the dust settled, upon which time the band headed north to perform in San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle, and have safely arrived in Canada where they will continue their tour of North America.
