Mare - s/t EPCD, MP3
When I heard this record I felt like I was hearing something perfect. Every note and change and harmony makes sense and resonates within me. I wish Mare would make another record someday. I also wish I could sing like Tyler, and I also wish I could play drums like Caleb. I heard that Tyler had a toothbrush in his back pocket while they were playing in Toronto...what can I say?
Jodis - Secret House2xLP, CD, MP3
This is one of the saddest and most lonely records I have ever heard, sad and lonely without being dramatic. It sounds very honest, like a twisted version of Fovea Hex. I really appreciate the space the music has, and the time period and personalities of the musicians the recording captures. You can appreciate James Plotkin's exceptional hearing and mastering skills. I tried to make a funny joke about Jodis, but you CANT joke about Jodis, and everyone knows that. This record deflects joking.
BERGRAVEN - Til Makabert VäsenCD, MP3
When I heard this record I was walking in the rain, it was before the record came out (thanks HHR!). I was listening to it on broken ipod headphones. I listened to it with two bi-polar manic depressives in my car driving in traffic, and all these times I only noticed the music. This is an amazing record. I think this is the most "listened to" record for me of 2009. This record is also not really funny or joke-able.
Old Man Gloom - ChristmasMP3
This record is so fucking awesome, it sounds haunted and it sounds like a bunch of guys were trapped in a recording studio in Salem during a snow storm. In my dream world if I was a dude and I could growl and yell really loud and play electric guitar like I just couldn't stop being influenced by The Dead Man soundtrack, then I would be in this band and I would play live shows and be tired and sweaty afterward. I REALLY wish Old Man Gloom would make some more records...I heard they are going to soon...just saying.
Khanate- Capture and ReleaseLP, CD, MP3
I don't even need to describe to you my excuse for loving this record. But there are so many good things you can do while listening to Khanate. You can drink coffee early in the morning with your Khanate mug, you can cut the sleeves off of your Khanate shirt and go hiking in the mountains, you can sharpen the Khanate hunting knife you have near your bed while living in the woods, you can drown out your roommates irritating folk music by listening to Khanate really loud, you can appreciate James Plotkin's exceptional hearing and mastering skills, and you can play with your cat by dragging him around with an afghan on the floor while you both listen to Khanate.

Everlovely Lightningheart: streaming live recording from a basement in bloomington, IN from their tour with oakeater
The long delayed 2xLP "Sein Weal Tallion Rue" is finally in the works. Should be available in the early weeks of 2009. We really mean it this time. The band is now gone and this album was recorded some time ago, but we believe it is well worth the lengthy wait. The vinyl will be very limited and most likely available only through direct mailorder and the HHR webstore.
Oops, we did it again...we just can't stop...really, its becoming a problem. This SXSW thing is a real bitch, but we just can't say no...but check it, we managed to pretty much KILL it on our line up. Again. This is Vol. 4, for those counting, and as you've come to expect from your friendly neighborhood Hydra Head, the line up represents precisely why 2008 has turned out to be a motherfucker of year for us...

Everlovely Lightningheart will be in an art show as a sound installation this coming weekend, Saturday June 30th, the gallery will be open every weekend in July. Also individual members from Everlovely Lightningheart will have their work in the show currated by Simon Watson done at the behest of Marc Selwyn of Marc Selwyn Fine Art.Called Fast Forward, the show will open Saturday June 30th at the Brentwood Country Mart(#33) located at 26th Street at San Vicente. Honestly, can a music concept get more interesting than Drawing Voices? We doubt it. But beyond its theoretical aims, the music contained is also awesome: as organic as it is electronic; mellow and minimal at times; with moments of obvious volume-push abrasiveness. This self-titled release is an appropriate stepping stone for the Double-H Noise family. A bunch of us over here at Hydra Headquarters took a little field trip to a local music-show-bar to catch a set by the always compelling Everlovely Lightningheart, and let me tell you we stared jaws agape at an absolutely unbelievable performance. If you are in the San Francisco area tonight please make your way over to the Bottom Of The Hill for what promises to be one hell of a last show for the These Arms Are Snakes/ Mouth Of The Architect tour.

hi folks,
first off, we are sorry to say that the everlovely lightningheart "cusp" album has been delayed yet again... we have now set a march 7th release date that will be adhered too... and we'll be doing some sort of special preorder thing for this release as well, though we're not sure what it will contain just yet. we'd also like to add that this record will be worth the wait - the booklets for the cd were wonderfully designed and handsewn by the band with "unique" insertions in each ... and we've already gone on at length about the quality of the aural content in past postings... so just hold on for a few more weeks....
also in the works is a preorder package for the pelican "march into the sea" 12", with t shirt, turntable slip mat, etc. we'd also like to mention preparations are currently being made for the release of the new and stunning jesu cd ep/12" entitled "silver", as well as the long awaited reissue of the agoraphobic nosebleed masterpiece "pcp torpedo" on the digital format complete with a full disc of remixes by the likes of vinda obmana, jk broadrick, merzbow, etc....
and now, back to everlovely, here is a bunch of info from the band on upcoming and current activities... as you can see they are a busy bunch, so get out there 'n support 'em all you LA area freaks! this is unedited text, but we think you all are smart enough to be able to extract the pertinent info contained herein...
"-there is a date pending for the show at LACMA for janruary, but it is based on the performance we did in the Belmont Tunnel in 2004.
-we have an installation at the USC fine arts Grad gallery. we have made 10 speakers and we have made thousands of 3 minute songs, groups of songs are played at random through each speaker creating an atmosphere of sound where the listener will never be able to hear the song all the way through because it is constantly changing. it is a test run model for our bigger show in March/April. the DATE: OPENING RECEPTION: FEBRUARY 23 2006. @ USC GRAD FA GALLERY: Gayle and Ed Roski Master of Fine Arts Gallery, 3001 South Flower st, Los Angeles, CA. 90007- tel. 213 743 1804-finearts.usc.edu/events
-we have the same kind of show at the UC Riverside Sweeney Gallery for a group show called "PEOPLE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW", it is along the same lines but more realized and more audiance participation. the DATE: OPENING RECEPTION: APRIL 1st 2006. we will be performing on APRIL 2 and possibly APRIL 6 with another artist Mario Ybarra. the show was currated by Meg Cranston.
-then theres the craziest one- we are included in a group show put on my the artist Andrea Zittel and some of her group called HIGH DESERT TEST SITES PROJECTS, it is in the high desert- Jousha Tree/ 29 Palms area. we will be constructing a monumental Aeolien harp. if you need a brief description of the harp here it is:
"the Aeolin Harp is an ancient instrument invented by the greeks and named after Aeolus, the god of wind. Arthurian legends hold that these harps were placed along the cliffs above the shores of Britan in the 6th century in order to ward off invaders with the otherwordly sound of their howling music.
the harp we propose to build is of the ancient variety, free standing, and obelisk-like in shape.
the harp sounds by way of a process known in physics as vortex sheeding. this is the same phenomenon which causes high-tension power lines to whistle.
the harp consists of a vertical colume or housing with slatted openings, which serve to concentrate and funnel wind across the strings contained within. the strings are all the same length, but of different thickness. by adjusting the tension of the strings in accordance with their varying thicknesses, the strings are all tuned to the same fundamental pitch, as they would if they were plucked or struck, but rather at the wide variety of harmonics which make up the overtone series for the paticular tone to which all the strings are tuned. the result is a chours of shifting harmonies, haunting and ethereal in their wavering song.
the harp will be embedded in the floor of the canyon, these harmonies will echo and reverberate creating an interesting spatial experience of sound."
