"Raise a glass to the dead. For all intents and purposes, New York’s skull-fucking quartet of palpable and existential big D Dread went the way of the dinosaur after Capture & Release – its final studio effort. Bassist James Plotkin was the first to clear the air. Volk sympathetic to Khanate’s unique and utterly weaponized brand of bad vibes grasped the what-could-have-beens. Others scoffed, called bullshit on the whole thing, and went about their way, which essentially sums up the band’s reception even when they managed to stay – sort of – together, traveling the United States and Europe and razing myriad psyches in their progress. So here’s a wake for the dead, recollection large and small, with some ribbing of course. We wouldn’t have had it any other way.".. read the full article on Thelefthandpath.com

Chris P.
28; music publicist; Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn
Chris says: “I have a very bohemian attitude toward life. If something is meant to be than it is, and if it's not it's not. I don't like to get hung up on the past and things I can't control. I'm a pragmatist and I believe in the brutal, honest truth. I can make women laugh but I'm never ‘on.’ Did I mention I'm a well-learned culinary wizard and music is my life? I like cultured personalities and classiness, but not so much to the point where it becomes stuffy.”
My style: “T-shirt-and-jeans dude with a twist of retro chic.”
My outlook: “Be thankful for every little crumb and day you have.”
My ideal NYC date: “Using my cooking skills to have a date at home, and watching a movie or us going to a concert followed by or preceded by dinner.”
What Chris wants to know about you: “What kind of music are you into?”

Last week Helms Alee took part in a family feud style game show based on rock trivia against fellow seattle band, Akimbo. "Naturally we destroyed them (Akimbo)" said Ben V of Helms Alee. Apparently our wicked sexy boss Aaron Turner was in the audience but has declined comment.

ISIS, the innovative Los Angeles-by-way-of-Boston-based band, will release its fifth full-length album, "Wavering Radiant", on May 5 via Ipecac Recordings. The CD, produced by Joe Baressi (MELVINS, ENSALVED, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE), will receive a limited-edition vinyl release on April 21.
Guitarist/vocalist Aaron Turner recently discussed the new album with Billboard, saying "This is a better sonic representation of what the band actually sounds like. In the past I think some of the recordings were a little too clean in their final form. There was something about the energy that seemed to be lacking. It seems to feel more like us than anything else has."
Drummer Aaron Harris added, "I feel a sense of completion with this record that I've never felt before. We spent more time creating this record than we have with any other, and I feel in my heart that this record is in many ways our best."
Cover art (see above) was once again created by Turner.
01. Hall Of The Dead
02. Ghost Key
03. Hand Of The Host
04. Wavering Radiant
05. Stone To Wake A Serpent
06. 20 Minutes / 40 Years
07. Threshold of Transformation
ISIS' latest album, "In the Absence of Truth", was released in October 2006 through Ipecac.

All good things come to an end, and so its with a bittersweet heart that we announce Pelican have found a new home for their future recordings. Its all good vibes folks, so don't get worked up about it...Pelican have been family and always will be family... its just that now they are part of another family as well...in the form of LA's Southern Lord Records, a label that's time and again shown they know a nice flavor when they taste it.
The Pelican guys are in Seattle now recording what will come to fruition in the form of a new EP at some point in the coming months. Trevor says its 'riff-oriented', which we figure pretty much goes without saying...they've got a special guest on the release as well...but that's hush hush.
They'll presumably be playing some of the new tracks on their string of upcoming dates this spring with Wolves in the Throne Room and Tombs (shout out to Mike Hill!) in support. Included on the tour is a stop at SXSW as part of SL's label showcase.
We'll have a second pressing of ltd CD version of their split with These Arms Are Snakes as well as the Champions of Sound 2 x 7" comp featuring new cuts from Pelican, Kayo Dot, Brodsky and Zozozbra....but more on that later.

They said it couldn't be done, but after once debuting top tens in April
and missing 2007 altogether, we have proven them wrong. Today we say to
the internet, "Yes we can...get top tens posted within a month of the New
Years...just don't expect it to happen again."

"With band members no longer scattered between U.S. coasts, Isis was able to "work out some of the more subtle aspects of the songs" before hitting the studio. Tool guitarist Adam Jones wound up guesting on two as-yet-unnamed tracks. "This is a better sonic representation of what the band actually sounds like. In the past I think some of the recordings were a little too clean in their final form," Turner says. "There was something about the energy that seemed to be lacking. It seems to feel more like us than anything else has." After a handful of late 2008 shows in Europe, Isis will return to the road this spring. "If we can pull it together and find somebody agreeable to support, we'll probably do a support thing before the record drops, and then a headlining tour shortly after it comes out," Turner says. "We have European festivals in the summer, and that's as far as we've gotten."- Billboard

KHANATE "CLEAN HANDS GO FOUL"
"Clean Hands is the somber recollection of tragedy. Straying from the more forceful and downright violent nature of past releases like Things Viral and Capture & Release, the last dissonant emissions of Khanate are downtrodden and teeming with regret. “Wings From Spine” is a sobering affair, every bit as cold as one would expect from the band, but with a remorseful tone. On “In That Corner” Stephen O’Malley’s crashing, sparse chords shatter upon the ground like the dreams of the innocent fallen. Alan Dubin’s tortured wails resonate over the jagged shards of guitar and percussion"- The Oberlander
HELMS ALEE "NIGHT TERROR""The desire for categorization sometimes comes as a ridiculous meeting. It is rather obvious that humankind has created knowledge from this effort. Not only discovering things but above all giving them a name and an independent existence isolated from its form. Language is the ultimate catalogue machine. Is there not a form? Well then there is language to invent it! Things may exist or not but as long as language is there then they exist. Think of this after listening Helms Alee and its curious musical concoction. Can we subtract from our impending necessity to give nominations to something we experienced but we are not sure how to call it? But the thing is we need these odd distinctions if we want to remain social, because as sooner we need to communicate our findings to someone else we should have to get the ability to describe what we tested. We would get rid of our fanatic attitude for categorization the moment we remain hermits, then things would just get reduced to its nominal character."- HeathenHarvest
Discordance Axis "The Inalienable Dreamless""A far cry from your average grindcore band, Discordance Axis boasts gratifying harmonic variety along with crushing weight from guitarist Rob Marton, plus exceptional power and intelligibility, courtesy of one of the best grind drummers ever born: Dave Witte, who has also played for Human Remains, Burnt By The Sun, Phantomsmasher, Melt-Banana and Municipal Waste."- HoustonPress

i play drums. would like to meet a DEDICATED bassist & guitarist or two. this band could be instrumental OR vocals. prefer with vocals, but if the music is good enuf,so be it. vocals would be gravy! please, no flakes, no bs. i dont care about drug habits as long as it doesn't hinder your desire & ability to rock. music is the most important thing. if you like atreyu, bullet for my valentine or any other bs new school metalcore, dont bother contacting. i'm not looking to ride the bandwagon. please, i cant emphasize enuf, NO FLAKES! i'm not a nazi about music, i just think it's rude to waste people's time by not showing up. i want people who are passionate & will put in the work.
thanks for your time.
