Can you debate the thinking man's sport (chess boxing) vs. the thinking man's metal?
Can you clean up, pack up, print out, and assemble?
Can you work 2 days a week for free lunch and some free vinyl?
If you answered yes these questions then we want you... to intern.
Its a new year and we've got tons of vinyl coming in and we need help assembling it. Our old interns are moving on so we're looking for a fresh batch and, in Chel's case, a new office Bromance.
If you think you fit the bill and LIVE IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA, then please email Rachael@hydrahead.com

Available at HYDRA HEAD SHOP.
This one is SO legit. The Kayo Dot LP version of "Blue Lambency Downward" is fully assembled and ready to roll...it's a single 180g LP available on three colors (maroon, green, white) in an old school style tip on gatefold jacket with heavyweight innersleeves (that are printed both in and out, for you geek types who care about that sorta stuff). Its limited to 1000 pieces total and is available in stores on Valentine's Day. But if you are one of those obsessive types walking around with homemade 'Totally Toby' and 'Madly Mia' shirts, then chances are you'll probably want a copy NOW...which works out real nice seein' as we've got 'em up and available on our Hydra Head Shop right about now....
In addition to the LP, we've launched two other new Kayo Dot items through the store...both at a real nice discount if yr ordering 'em with an LP. There is the extremely limited edition (50 available) 3 piece, 7 color, silkscreen poster pack designed by the man Toby himself. Each poster in the set is a 9" x 24" and is available on its own for $60/set or $45/set when you order with purchase of an LP.
The other new item is a shirt designed by Faith Coloccia from Mamiffer/Everlovely Lighteningheart, which can be had for $15 on its own or for the wicked great deal rate of $10 with purchase of an LP.
Chel's got some of them instock as well, but he does not have the limited poster set or the t-shirt...he's strictly vinyl: chelvanin@hydrahead.com
Back in the day it was difficult to imagine bands of ours playing huge European fests like Roadburn...let alone artists of ours doing SPOKEN WORD sets at Roadburn. But leave it to Eugene S. Robinson to pull it off...presumably it wasn't due exclusively to his smooth talking that made it happen...after all, Eugene's hometown friends in Neurosis do happen to be curating the event this year. His appearance at Roadburn will kick off a string of European spoken word dates, some of which have already been confirmed...check it:
Eugene S. Robinson: European Spoken Word Dates
April 25th at Roadburn for Neurosis' curated Beyond The Pale
May 1st at 4AD in Diksmuide, Belgium
May 8th at Bar Mondial in Antwerp, Belgium (tickets: 5,00€)
When Pelican mentioned they wanted us to create a ringtone for one of their tracks, we thought they were totally kidding. And then we realized they were totally not kidding...what happened is they'd been cornered by Jamie from Vice, who's a certified chatterbox of sorts when it comes to nouveau ways of promoting and marketing in this here digital age. So although we're clearly old farts when it comes to this high tech advanced stuff, we are clearly also old farts that learn wicked quick....the proof of which is in the ringtone image you see above! Read the fine print and ringtone away!
If you are a member of the band Clouds, please let us know if you want a few of these.

Big Business is pleased to announce the completion of their new full length album, entitled MIND THE DRIFT.
Big Business are also pleased to announce that they think it turned out great.
Quite a few of those millennial types on the internet have been asking the band things like: "What's up with the new album? Why's it taking so long? How come you guys don't play that one song anymore or have merchandise at your shows?"
While Big Business don't have time to answer all of those types of questions directly, we at Hydra Head would like to take this opportunity to present you with some True Facts about MIND THE DRIFT.
FACT #1:
Producer Phil Ek (insert famous bands like the Shins here) has again evolved the band's grandiose sound and taken the Biz into new sonic territories!
FACT #2:
Guitarist and newest band member Toshi Kasai adds new voice and dimension, and looks good doing it. You can actually hear the handsome.
FACT #3:
Most of the instrumental tracks were recorded at AVAST! 2 studios in Seattle, WA. in June and July of 2008.
FACT #4:
Due to the busy touring schedule of Big Biz and the Melvins, most of the vocals, as well as some overdubs and mixing, had to be postponed until late November of 2008. The album was completed in Los Angeles (well, actually, Burbank to be precise). (That's a two-fer.)
FACT #5:
While recording Jared's vocals, Phil Ek kept a loaded sawed-off shotgun in the control room.
FACT #6:
Hydra Head Records will be releasing the album on LP/CD/Digital this April. But more news on that later...

A Pile of J Bennett's Clothes Available Here
My name is Chel, and I have made a mistake.
I meant to post this last week, but I kinda forgot about it. It’s an ebay auction we have going with just under 2 days left.
It’s for 6 Hydra Head hoodies, which I believe are out of print now (Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Jesu s/t, Cave In, Jesu Silver, Zozobra, and Knut) a Hydra Head t-shirt, (Hydra Head Bennett) and 9 full art Hydra Head CD's from the respective bands (its a pot luck sorta deal, we ain't telling you which ones).
I considered pulling the auction since I spaced on it, but then figured what the hell, its a good deal at this point....AND just think about how cool it would be to have items previously worn by a member of the press!!! For those of you who don't know him already, J Bennett is a celebrity journalist for the likes of Decibel, Revolver, Rock Sound and Alternative Press. He's also a know it all that used to like our stuff but now apparently hates our stuff....we suspect this due to his dropping off of the aforementioned hoodies at our office the other day in a fit of rage after we called him out for hating on something just because he wasn't the first to hear about it. You know how those journalists are...they just think they know everything.
Tiny Mix Tapes has released their Top Album Covers of 2008 and Pyramids took first place. You can stream the album here

"Confession: If it were not for the Dead Kennedys, I wouldn’t know who Harvey Milk even was. And if it weren’t for a new film starring Sean Penn about the assassinated gay city supervisor from San Francisco, I wouldn’t have thought about Harvey Milk. And if it weren’t for looking for information about the Gun Van Sant film, I wouldn’t have discovered that Harvey Milk had released an album this year. And if it weren’t for Glorious Noise, you may not know that the new album, Life…The Best Game In Town, is quite good....."- GloNo
Life... The Best Game In Town also placed #18 on Silence in Architecture's Top 20 of '08 list

“why are we not perfect probably one of the most under-rated albums of the year. i love jesu and i love this album.” – Cowblogs from Hell “Jesu have always confounded me a bit. I ended up seeing Jesu with Heath a couple years ago now when they were opening for Isis at Irving and had a hard time reconciling the music I was hearing against the Godflesh and Napalm Death shows I had seen in years past”- Jaded Scenester NYC
“You get the feeling that the title of this latest EP is a question that nags at Jesu mastermind Justin Broadrick. Judging by his sheer tonnage of output, you can sense that he may be trying to reach creative enlightenment by pouring out an unending flow of music. Seriously, by the time you’re done reading this, a new Jesu EP/split/remix album will probably have been released. But with a track record as spotless as Broadrick’s, it’s tough to complain about his unyielding desire to drop music on our heads.”- Plug In
"the VSS is like a secret handshake. Namedropping the act locally will likely solicit one of two responses: a blank stare or the giddy recognition of a long-lost sibling. Since its breakup in 1997, the band has developed an underground following of rock cult elitists and purist vinyl collectors"- Decider Denver

Every week, Amazon.com lets Stereogum select one recent release from its MP3 store to go on super sale (up to 75% off normal prices). Hopefully you'll be able to add this LP to your library without breaking your budget.
"While they landed album of the year at Decibel and were more often relegated to the lower ends of lists in indie publications (Pitchfork gave them an Honorable Mention), Torche's second full length Meanderthal was one of the best albums of 2008 in any genre. It's just that people need to lighten up about metal -- even the poppier stuff -- because like country (or, in books, romance and sci-fi), it's often pushed into its own separate genre-relegated realm. Anyhow, Torche: We mentioned being blown away by the heavy stoner goodness of the band a couple CMJ's ago and then the Steve Brooks-fronted Miami/Atlanta crew released the superb, Kurt Ballou-produced Meanderthal, a mix of math angles, Melvins-esque sludge, and full-on turbo-powered pop hookery. Call us blown away doubly."- Stereogum

Power lunching is the new cool thing over here, all the hot labels are doing it....as you can see by the above pic, Aaron loved his power lunch with Lustmord. And although Lustmord seems indifferent, we've never seen him with a different expression, so we'll have to assume he too enjoyed his power lunch with us. Or maybe he's just mad because we kept calling him Lunchmord over and over while eating pressed egg sandwiches...
The best part about power lunching is that you get to leave the meal with a whole pile of shit to be excited about. In this case its the upcoming Lustmord remix 12" (or maybe it'll even be a 2 x 12"!) featuring reworked versions of tracks from Lustmord's last full length (and Hydra Head debut!) 'Other'. Mr. Justin Broadrick (aka that guy from Jesu and some other bands) just delivered his remix of the track "Dark Awakening", Mr. Adam Jones (aka that guy from Tool) is deep into his remix of a track we don't know the name of yet, and Mr Aaron Turner (aka that guy from Unionsuit and some other bands) says he's working on one now (which we think is bull shit since he's been in the studio with Isis for, like, 6 months or something). There may be one additional contribution as well...details are sketchy at the moment, but we're thinking a summer 2009 release on ltd 2 x 12". But don't quote us on that...what you can quote us on is that its happening as soon as we get music in hand for it. More news on this after our next power lunch...
PS: In case you missed it, Aaron designed a new Lustmord shirt design which you can get through our Hydra Head Shop on BCD.
This one is easily the best yet...Chel had been picking on Reed the Intern all day about Reed's inability to catch a ball...and then Chel is the one that goes and chucks a ball into a passing car. Chel runs from the scene of the crime so quickly that we still can't stop laughing...
