HYDRA HEAD RECORDS

Splitting Heads since 1995
Its nice when we come across a blog that actually ASKS for permission to post tracks online...Behind The Redwood Curtain recently posted two live tracks from both Pet Genius and Isis. The Pet Genius tunes are from their record release show from the Middle East in Cambridge, MA last October. "Man of the Mountain" is from their self titled debut and "Howdy Hi Hey Hello" is a non album track which can be found on the limited CDEP, "Elvis Unreleased", available through the band at shows or through the Hydra Head Shop. The Isis stuff,"Celestial (The Tower)" and "Divine Mother (The Tower Crumbles)", is from a Groningen, Netherlands performance from 2004 or 2005, we can't remember exactly...afterall it WAS Amsterdam we were in...enjoy!

Ok, ok, its not REALLY a Rolling Stone chart...but the chart is IN Rolling Stone (the newest issue, with someone named Jack Johnson on the cover). It is a weekly sales chart for what is clearly an amazing store in Oklahoma City called Size Records....this chart has specifically given Pelican their first ever appearance in print through Rolling Stone. Editors be damned! Let the People speak! Pelican probably don't even give a rat's ass about it...we think its pretty cool though...perhaps next time around we'll see Pelican in the chart all the way to the right of the page....

Extracted from the dank and murky swamps of south Florida, Laid Insignificant is brought forth anew, resplendent in all it's misanthropic glory. With remastered audio and added tracks from the original session, herein is a document of paroxysm of the aural variety, sounding just as virile and ornery as it did the day it was birthed. While the climate of any Cavity album could be considered hostile, Laid Insignificant has proven to be the most unhinged and ferocious occupant in the Cavity stable in the 10 years subsequent to it's original release. With added emphasis on faster tempos, layered chordal discordance, and an overall air of frantic desperation, this may stand if not as Cavity's best album, then certainly as their most furious and scathing.

Now, while *VERY* limited quanitites last, get yer new Cavity CD with a limited-edition, 11"x14" Lambda print that is signed and numbered by Dan of Cavity. The print is of a photo Dan took for the CD layout, and will only be available as part of this pre-order deal. As if there was anything that could make this deal any sweeter, we've also been told that everybody who orders this print will get a little extra surprise with their order. We're not going to tell you what it is ('cause then it wouldn't be a surprise, silly), but you're gonna love it if you get it / be very sad if you miss out.

What's more, until March 30th you can add a limited-edition t-shirt or hoodie to your Cavity CD + print order. fter March 30th, you'll still be able to buy the CD + Print (if any are left), but NOT the Cavity shirts or hoodies. Sorry! No, Really...

Track Listing:
  1. Laid Insignificant
  2. The Woods
  3. 9 Fingers on the Spider
  4. Marginal Man
  5. I May Go
  6. Spine I
  7. Spine II
  8. A Bitter Cold Spell

Our first and favorite secretary, Sarah (aka Toon Cake, Brainbombs / ex- Wet Snatch) is a hot shot wherever she goes...not because she works here, but because she's all over Side A of the recent Sissy Spacek 7" out now on Static Aktion. We're not sure exactly what she did on it...in fact we don't if its any good at all because Sarah only gave one to James and NOT to the rest of us...but if you want to check it out you can find it here.   That's her in the pic above, you should email her (sarah@hydrahead.com) and tell her to start a myspace page.

Dalek hit the road today, heading throughout the US and Europe into mid-May. They'll be out with the likes of RJD2, Russian Circles and Young Widows...not too mention a bunch of other HHR artists at this year's Hydra Head SXSW show on March 14th...(we'll be announcing the full line up for that show this week, by the way)...Dalek's last full length "Abandoned Language" came out a year ago through Ipeccac, while their first ever singles collection "Deadverse Massive Vol. 1" came out through Hydra Head last June.

Prefixmag.com have reviewed the track "Piranha" off the forthcoming album, Meanderthal from Torche. Heres what they had to say...

"Yeah, that track title’s about right. This new song, “Piranha,” from Torche’s forthcoming Meanderthal album, shreds with short, razor-sharp riffs that do their business quickly and then swim away searching for fresh meat. Vicious sure, but also sleek and hyperdriven (think Queens of the Digital Age). And them glazed over vocal harmonies sure are friendly, like a pack of twenty-fourth-century biker dudes inviting you to join them as they traverse the galaxy on their rocket-hogs. “Piranha” isn’t a huge departure from the sound of Torche’s self-titled debut or last year’s In Return EP, but you won’t find a shorter song that rocks harder, guaranteed. This is what getting stoned in the future will feel like."
