HYDRA HEAD RECORDS

Splitting Heads since 1995

Its almost February, and although you can't remember much of 2006 besides all the random rashes, we are sure that Daughters have stuck out in your mind as the band that defined the sixth year of this new century. Now you can finally register your extremely important opinion via SPIN magazines Artist of the Year contest. Voting starts Feb. 1st at www.spin.com/artistoftheyear/. And if that wasn't enough, the boys from Rhode Island will be heading out for their first Japanese jaunt to play four shows and buy rare japanese vinyl (pick me up some Gauze LPs). Here is the info:

J.K. Broadrick triumphantly returns with his second, and quite appropriately titled, Jesu full-length (the follow-up to last year’s critically acclaimed Silver EP). Packed with eight gorgeously hypnotic tracks in just over an hour, Conqueror exhales a dreamlike mist of weighty celestial ambience, underwater phantasms and slow-rolling nebulae, fomenting the kind of kaleidoscopic rapture—brimming with lush electronics, dulcet guitar textures, massive riffs, and lavish atmospheric hues—that makes us swear we’re on drugs.

We will be offering pre-orders leading up to the release date on February 20th. Between now and February 6th we are also offering a limited edition t-shirt, hoodie, and long sleeve. These will be printed on standard black garments with white ink and after the 6th they are G-O-N-E.

Jesu will follow this tour in 2007 with tours of Japan, UK, Europe and more.
They say you can take the kid out of the rock, but you can’t take the rock out of the kid…or some shit like that. This is especially difficult when “the kid” in question is Cave In’s Adam McGrath, fearless leader and vocalist/guitarist of Clouds, an outfit that delivers unbridled action-rock harking back to the mid/late-’90s Man’s Ruin garage onslaught—which, in turn, owes its collective hearing loss to the likes of the Wipers, the Bad Brains, the Stooges, and the MC5. So you can see what kind of lineage we’re talking about here. But wait—that’s not all these Boston gents have to offer: From nasty psych and Southern power grooves to (believe it or not) “Party Grunge” and sax’d-out dub, Legendary Demo has it all. Unlike anything else in Hydra Head’s vast back catalogue, this is truly a revelation.

When Knut was over here in 2001 for a US tour with Isis they used to hate how we insisted on speaking French to them. See, the thing is, our French sucks. On the other hand, their French does not suck, and neither does their band. They've been killing it for 10+ years at this point over 2 EPs, 3 full lengths, a remix record, countless European tours and one legendary US jaunt (where some clubs billed them as Kunt, something we still get quite a kick out off...). So hopefully the recent departure of one time bassist-turned guitarist, Jeremy, doesn't slow their recent prolificity (dictionary.com says that is a word, but we still can't seem to pronounce it). Fear not ye faithful, Knut cannot be killed...although it may be a bit before we see a new record. Damn it. In the mean time, if you read French, you can read an interview, a review of Challenger, and a review of Terraformer at Shootmeagain.com. Since we really can't read French all that well (expect for the one creepy French guy on the staff) we'll assume these are good write ups...hugs and kisses to our Swiss brothers.

After many long hours spent swimming through a pool of tedious emails regarding our recent merchandise liquidation (ie: stuff we have sitting around at the office and should get rid of) only to come across many failed sales attempts, I discovered that most customers don’t follow through with merchandise unless there is a “Buy It Now” button. So here is your new official Hydra Head “Buy It Now” button to access all the crazy cool limited merchandise, CD’s, LP’s and other random and sometimes rare stuff that dwells in the caves of the Hydra Head Offices. http://stores.ebay.com/HydraHeadShop is our new outlet for freeing up space in our offices and feeding your hunger for limited and reduced priced Hydra Head Items. No longer will you have to pay half of your paycheck to some fat burrito-eating dude who lives off of selling our, and probably everyone else’s, limited products for ridiculous prices on ebay. The store prices will be mostly liquidated prices. What you see is what we got ladies and gentlemen, take it. From time to time we’ll add new items that we have floating around, so stay tuned.

PS: The pic is of Hymie's mini-van, that he drove into the wall across the street from our office. awesome!

We've heard Pitchfork referred to as the Rolling Stone of the internet... which as far as we are concerned is a good thing since they've been covering our stuff. Give 'em some traffic, they just did some words on Pelican and Jesu. And although it's a few months old, they're also a meaty piece on Xasthur from when "Subliminal Genocide" came out.
Our guess is that if your reading this you are a junkie for news and what not...especially news of new records and the like. We're fucking junkies about shit like that here. Newbury Comics' Tuesday afternoon new release email is enough to make some of us go into fits on the way to Amoeba or Best Buy. But we realized we rarely ever announce our upcoming list of dates the way we should...so, without further ado, here's what is confirmed for the first three months of 2007...

January 30th, 2007
HH666-125 Zozobra- "Harmonic Tremors" CD

February 6th, 2007
HH666-131 Clouds- "Legendary Demo" CD

February 20th, 2007
HH666-126 Jesu- "Conqueror" CD

March 6th, 2007
HH666-121 Big Business- "Here Come the Waterworks" CD

March 20th, 2007
HH666-128 Drawing Voices- "s/t" CD

May 22nd, 2007
HH666-124 Pelican- "City of Echoes" CD

And then there's the stuff that will be out during that time but that we don't have confirmed release dates for:
HYH-110 Jesu- "Silver" LP
HYH-111 Daughters- "Hell Songs" LP
HYH-113 Pelican- "Pink Mammoth" 10"
HYH-115 Xasthur- "Subliminal Genocide" 2xLP
HYH-123 Lustmord- "Juggernaut" ltd CD

and, as usual, all of this stuff will debut at the Hydra Head Shop

Okay, its a new year and we need new blood in the office. Which means we need interns to supply said blood in quantities comparable to the Peoples Temple. Ritualistic mass suicide is cool now, right? anyway, if you think you have what it takes to survive in our office full of fucktards, please contact us. But before we go any further, you need to meet the following criteria:

• Live close to the 90029 area code and have a vehicle that has headlights.
• Possess the ability to keep a predictable schedule.
• Be of legal age to except massive amounts of verbal abuse
• Fully comprehend the meaning of "Fun" and all its variations and verbiage.
• Except the fact that you will be taking on random yet important boring everyday jobs around the office.

James is also looking for his own Graphic Design orientated intern, should you inquire, you additionally need:

• Slight computer graphics ability and knowledge of programs such as but not limited to:
- Photoshop
- Illustrator
- InDesign
- Dreamweaver
- I am too lazy to list the rest
• Preferably be in school and have the ability to receive school credit
• Be able to follow instructions from multiple sources and prioritize
• Have your own Laptop, we will not supply you with a computer or programs
• Be able to hold extensive conversations about Eerie Materials
• You do not need prior experience, or a portfolio

To find out more about the general intern position and/or apply, please email Bryce (bryce@hydrahead.com) and Wes (wes@hydrahead.com). For the graphic design intern position, james@hydrahead.com will do. In both cases, please tell us alittle about yourself and stupid generic "job interview"-isque factoids that we will just discard anyway cause we ain't picky. We can't pay you in legal tender but you will receive possible friendships that could last the ages and defy standard conventions and "tons of free shit", that if you put on eBay, will result in your immediate termination (job-wise, not life-wise).

Thanks for getting this far.
Taking its name from the 50-foot effigy burned every year by a hysterical mob during the Fiestas De Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Zozobra is the brainchild of Cave In/Old Man Gloom bassist Caleb Scofield. Featuring live drums courtesy of fellow OMG institute liaison Santos Montaño, Harmonic Tremors deftly traverses the far-flung fields of transcendental space rock and explosive dirge metal (not to mention the occasional Godflesh-style pounding) with alternately snarling and oscillating riffery, crippling bass quakes and apocalyptic proclamations hurled end-over-end toward the cosmic unconsciousness. Echoes of Scofield’s previous devastations in both Cave In and OMG resonate throughout, but Zozobra ultimately follows its own smoke signals into the great beyond.
