First the boys in the band posted "Howdy Hi Hey Hello"on their myspace page. Then the boy at the Boston Phoenix blog On The Download posted, "Motherfucker" as "MP3 Of The Week". What that means for you is that 2/3rds of "Elvis Unreleased", the bands debut ltd 3 song EP, is free free free...if anyone wants to host the third track let us know and we'll send it to you to spread around. For those of you who still like tangible versions of records, a handful of the EP are still available at the Hydra Head Shop.
Last month Deciblog posted Justin Foley's recent analytical study of how likely a band is to start their name with a particular letter of the alphabet. All was quiet on the geek metal front until we came across yet another Deciblog post today about Glenn McDonald, an apparently well known rock critic and blogger, and his recent detailed rebuttal on how he believes Justin's analysis suffers from flawed data. Now we sit and wait for Foley's impending response. Although Justin is our boy and would back him at least until someone beat us all up, we say this from experience collecting metal CDs and LPs for close to 20 years; the letter "S ", without doubt, dominates our personal collection and has done so for years...our reasoning isn't nearly as analytical as Foley or McDonald's, but its still legitimate. We know because when we organize our CD's alphabetically we do so by giving each letter a spot on the floor and start stacking CDs vertically....the S stack always, and we really mean always, dwarfs the others...more debate to follow...hopefully.

He's been teasing us for YEARS that he's got new projects in the works. As singer of Discordance Axis throughout the 90's Jon Chang made a name for himself by fronting (and, notably, designing everything for) one of the undergrounds leading, and most enigmatic, grindcore outfits. Their final full length, 1999's "The Inalienable Dreamless", simply owned...and still does after 8 years. The 8 years thing is where the problem lies for DA's and Chang's die hard fan base...they've waited that long for something new from him. In 2005 he gave 'em all a taste , if only a small yet very satisfying one, with one track from Gridlink, his internationally assembled project with members of Japanese outfits Mortalized and Disconformity. And then nothing more was offered...there were sporadic updates through his production and animation company, Studio Grey, but it seemed most of his time had been regularly devoted to his plethora of animation (Scratch Trigger Era) and gaming design (Black Powder Earth) interests. That is until he unexpectedly introduced yet another new band, Hayaino Daisuki, earlier this year...where Gridlink is in many ways an extension of his work with DA, Hayaino Daisuki is an extension of what presumably drew him to his genre in the first place. Much to our disbelief and content, Gridlink and Hayaino Daisuki both entered the studio last month and, in punk rock style, completed two new records in a matter of days. Needless to say, we are pleased to announce the debut releases from both bands in early 2008...Hayaino Daisuki will likely come first...the tracklistings, artwork, and all the gory details for both releases will be announced as they are confirmed. Stay tuned.

Director Michael Cimpher independently put together a video for "Dead Eyes" off of Jesu's 'Silver' EP...he says its not the final cut, but its close...you can see the video by clicking your mouse on that 'play' shaped button right above...

In even further Jesu video news...while in Los Angeles this November, while wrapping up their debut headlining US tour, the band will be filming a video for a track off of an upcoming EP due out on Hydra Head in early 2008...more specifics on that later this fall.

And while we're at we'd be fools to not mention the band's new "Life Line" EP, in stores October 9th, right at the start of the tour. In an unlikely move for us, it really truly appears that we'll have the vinyl version of "Life Line" to send off with the band. And to think, it only took us 10 years to get the CD and LP version of an album to be released at the same time.

For those of you that didn't get to see Clouds on their recent US tour with Pelican, you can check out some video from the San Diego gig now on You Tube...."New Amnesia" is what you see above, and "Live for It Now + Mountain Jim" is also up there as well...

As far as the title: as everybody knows, the KING Elvis Aaron Presley died on the porcelain throne. As everybody also knows from watching CSI or L & O SVU etc, the human body evacuates its waste receptacles upon passing i.e. when you die you piss and shit yourself. (Hence, when something dies, organic or inorganic, the colloaquial expression, "The thing totally shit the bed.," may be employed.) This worked out for THE KING as he was already on the bowl. However, he did not get a chance to beat it before he died--check the autopsy--so he actually died without release. That final unexpelled load was then extracted from the kings scrotal sack and cryogenically frozen. On the 20th anniversary of his death--August 16th, 2007--that final dose of hate paste was unfrozen and heated to 270 kelvins where it was baked on to 1/4" magnetic tape. The Genius acquired this tape through a series of shady backroom deals, and the ep was recorded directly on to the baby gravy coated tape--a sort of sonic ejaculation, if you will. Finally THE KING had his final release via the hands and mouths of Pet Genius--via guitars and microphones, of course. In final tribute to Elvis' frozen load, we decided to call the ep "Elvis Unreleased."

Unless you've been living under a rock that's underneath another even bigger rock in a cave in the middle of nowhere, you probably already know what's up with this milestone/motherfucker of an album. Initially released in the year two grand, Botch's final full-length was/is the kind of devastating metallic hardcore explosion that the term "metallic hardcore" could/can only aspire to. In fact, these dudes nailed it so hard that the bands that came afterward had to start calling themselves "metalcore" out of respect. And today, it's actually even worse: Ever since Botch went tits up back in 2002, there's been a steady, obnoxious stream of MTV2-jocking carpetbaggers that have ripped off our Sea-Tac boys (currently members of esteemed rock outfits like Minus The Bear, These Arms Are Snakes and Roy) riff for riff. We'd name names, but why fuck around with pretenders to the throne when you're already in bed with the kings?

Re-released here in a totally sweet double-disc edition featuring the original recording plus bonus live tracks and the entire album in its hi-fidelity demo version, We Are The Romans is bigger, better, and more Roman than ever. So man the goddamn ramparts already, 'cause it's time to burn this motherfucker down.

The Austerity Program To Quit the Rap Game *
Sales War with Coalesce Results in Hanging Up the Mic

Astoria, NY - One week after issuing a challenge to labelmates Coalesce, the Austerity Program is making good on their commitment to stop making rap records for good.

"We threw down the gauntlet and we take challenges like this very seriously. And, damn, we lost," said Austerity Program lyricist Justin Foley at the Tuesday press conference held on the corner of his block. "While we will continue to develop other rap artists, produce rap records and possibly even perform rap shows, there will be no new Austerity Program Hip Hop releases, ever. A public that does not reward us with the sales our music merits does not deserve to spin the AP flow. You chuckleheads."

The emotional announcement was just the latest chapter in an ongoing music world feud. On the August 21 dual release of Coalesce's There is Nothing New Under the Sun and the Austerity Program's Black Madonna, Foley fired an e-mail to Coalesce singer Sean Ingram that read, in part:

"I'm calling you out - HERE IT IS, COALESCE: If your record sells more than our record in the first week, we will QUIT THE RAP GAME - How 'bout it? You scrubs street enough to ball?"

One week later, the results were in and the Austerity Program had lost. Foley's belligerent tone was gone in his second message to Ingram.

"Shit."

Hydra Head label manager Mark "Marky" Thompson responded to Foley through e-mail and two phone calls. "jf - even if we did send out promo CDs to the extensive and inaccurate media list you provided (AND WE'RE NOT GOING TO), those are not repeat NOT logged as sales."

Ingram's response to the results was dismissive, saying in part "Haha! Coalesce is just getting started with rap."

Tuesday's announcement could be the final stage in this saga, although Foley did hint at a live TV debate with Ingram. "Even though it's over, it isn't over," said the disheveled singer. "And I want to tell the people at SoundScan and their legal team that we did not try to hack their computers, which are obviously protected by very impenetrable and confusing security. Stop trying to subpoena me while I'm walking my dog. And no, we did not hide Coalesce CDs in the Ne-Yo section at Best Buy. Now, since we're all here, there's a couple of things I want to get off my chest."

This type of thing went on for a while.
